Take heart. There is hope, and there is help.
Divine healing is one of the wonderful promises of
God's Word.
More than likely you've heard stories of God's miraculous healing touch. You
may even know someone who has been healed by God. But right now, when
you're down for the count, it may seem little to hold on to. But don't give up.
One of the hard (and sometimes painful) realities of life is that our bodies
aren't perfect. They are subject to pain, disease, and deterioration. It's all part of
the process of life.
It wasn't intended to be that way at first. When God created the first man and
woman (Adam and Eve) the plan was heavenly- there would be no sickness,
suffering or death. However, God also gave them the power to make moral
choices. When they disobeyed God's commands and gave in to Satan's
temptation in the Garden of Eden, God's perfect plan was marred by sin. This
event which introduced sin into the world is known as the fall of man. Since then
every human being is subject to the damaging effects of the Fall, part of which
is our physical frailty.
But the 'first sin' did not surprise God. He knew it would happen. Before the
earth was formed, God already had a plan in mind both for man's salvation from sin
and for healing. In Old Testament times God promised the Israelites, "I am
the Lord, who heals you" (Exodus 15:26) There were some requirements, though.
The people were to listen to the voice of God, do what was right in His eyes, and
obey all His commands. God expects no less today.
Many years later Isaiah, a prophet, foretold Jesus' coming and His provision for
our salvation and healing: "He was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed
for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was upon him, and by his
wounds we are healed" (Isaiah 53:5) Healing is available today because of Jesus'
sacrifice for us on the Cross. Peter wrote, "by his wounds you have been healed"
(1 Peter 2:24). How can you receive God's healing? Faith is the key. Faith is
simply taking God at His Word. It is saying "God, I know Your Son Jesus shed His
blood for my healing. I trust in the promise of Your Word to heal." You can call on
other believers and ask for special prayer. James 5:15 says, "And the prayer
offered in faith will make the sick person well; and the Lord will raise him up."
But what about people who are prayed for and trust God for healing, but never
get better? It's true. That happens. Sometimes God allows sickness to draw us
closer to Him or to give us insight on how to help others going through similar
circumstances. But, ultimately, our part is to trust in God's wisdom and
sovereignty. He always knows what is best.
If you need healing today, trust God. Stand on the promises of His Word, and
leave everything to Him. He knows your need; but most importantly- He is totally
able to meet it.
With God all things are possible.
